Ray Liotta

With his gullable
but unusual smile and his probing eyes that can look either kindly
gentle or completely deranged, Ray Liotta has alternated between playing
buddies and psychos (and sometimes both at once) in mostly American
mainstream movies since the early 80s. When he hits it right, Liotta
holds his own against most actors, providing complex psychological
studies and undeniable potency to edgy characters (notably in GoodFellas
and Cop
Land).
However, when it doesn't work, Liotta's performances can be painfully
over-the-top and a liability to a film (as in Turbulence).
